Two national seminars on Internet research skills are being offered by
SOSIG (The Social Science Information Gateway):
- Internet for Politics: 7th Jun 2005, London
- Internet for Sociology: Jun 14th 2005, Oxford
Aimed at lecturers and researchers interested in improving their own use of
the Internet for research, or in teaching Internet research skills to
students, these one day seminars offer the chance to learn how to get the
most from leading online databases and Internet research tools.
Internet research skills are now recognised as an essential part of the
undergraduate curriculum (QAA Benchmark Statements). The seminars will
provide practical ideas and materials to help with teaching Internet
research methods; Internet and database searching; and use of the Internet
to find literature and numerical data.
The seminars will offer:
- An insight into leading Internet services for social science lecturers
and researchers - provided by the service providers themselves, including:
SOSIG, the new ESRC Information Centre, the HE Academy, professional
societies and JISC services
- Hands-on sessions in an IT suite with time to do your own Internet
research and help on hand from national service-providers
- Worksheets and ideas for teaching Internet research skills that can be
adapted for re-use with your own students
Seminar Fees - Staff £100 Postgraduates £40
