medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
(Cross-posted to medtext-l, mediev-l, and medieval-religion)
Dear colleagues,
Thanks to a recent withdrawal, this summer's International Medieval
Congress at Leeds (11-14 July 2005) could use a replacement paper in a
session entitled "Genres, Manuscripts, and the Transmission of
Knowledge". The two papers presently scheduled for this session have to
do with encyclopedias and with bestiaries. A new paper (delivery time:
17-20 minutes) could also address one of these or it could deal instead
with any of the other genres through which knowledge was transmitted
medievally in written form, e.g. proverb collections, universal
histories, or textbooks or commentaries on a particular subject or body
of knowledge.
Proposals, including paper title, an abstract not exceeding 100 words,
and a statement of any equipment needs, should specify that they are for
the vacancy in session 1621 and should be sent directly to the
International Medieval Congress at:

All proposals will be assessed as quickly as possible. Further
information about
the congress may be found at:

With all best wishes,
John Dillon
