The Italian Art Society is sponsoring a session on "Alterations of Italian
Art" at the College Art Association's annual conference in Boston (MA, not
Lincs), 22-25 February 2006. This should provide an opportunity for list
members to speak about the work they're doing on changes, reconfigurations,
reuse and recycling of old (and presumably also new) objects.
"Proposals are invited that address changes of objects that affect
appearance and interpretation. These may include: intentional changes made
to works in situ as "aggiornamenti" or to satisfy descendants of original
patrons or new owners; changes made to fit displaced works into new
settings or to modify composition; changes caused by unintended damage over
time and the repair of such damage. Case studies might include all of the
above and might also look at how recent conservation may have tried to
bring back the original intent of a patron or artist."
Abstracts should be submitted by 15 MAY 2005 to the session chair:
