>Salerno, restauratore presso l'ICR e storico dell'arte, Sabina Tommasi
>Ferroni, restrauratrice e storica dell'arte.

2. The Italian Art Society is sponsoring a session on "The Domestic
Interior in Renaissance Italy" at the Renaissance Society of America's
annual meeting in San Francisco, 23-25 March 2006:
"Renewed interest in the domestic interior and material culture should make
for a lively and provocative panel. As scholars have returned to the study
of decorated ceilings and floors, spalliere, furniture, deschi da parto,
devotional objects and paintings, sumptuous tableware, maiolica, textiles,
and even graffiti, we have a new opportunity to consider the effect of the
domestic interior on Renaissance identity formation. I am seeking papers
that cover a broad chronological range, circa 1300-1600, that address
republican city states as well as court centers, and that consider both
elite and popular patrons or audiences. For example, topics might range
from actual interiors to fictive interior spaces; they might engage the
domestic interior in a dialogue with exterior spaces like facades, logge or
gardens, and they might conmpare Neo-Renaissance examples with historical
interiors."
Abstracts should be submitted by 15 MAY 2005 to the session chair:

note the description of the new display at the Walters in the explanatory text.

Conference of the Historians of Netherlandish Art
Call for Sessions and Workshops
The conference organizing committee is soliciting session and workshop
proposals for the upcoming conference of the Historians of
Netherlandish Art to be held in Washington and Baltimore, November
8-12, 2006. It will coincide with two important exhibitions of
Netherlandish art, Prayers and Portraits: Unfolding the Netherlandish
Diptych, at the National Gallery of Art, and, at the Walters Art
Museum, a new installation of the Old Master galleries, based on a
provocative, contextual approach featuring the Collections of Art and
Wonders belonging to a 17th century Nobleman in Flanders (entry
gallery of arms and armor, private study, chamber of wonders) and the
Cabinet Galleries of a Dutchman in the circle of William and Mary
around 1700. In light of the conjunction of these exhibitions, the
conference will be devoted to the theme “From Icon to Art in the
Netherlands.”
Sessions:
Though proposed sessions need not be in concert with the conference’s
focus on the shift from art in the age of devotion to art in the age
of collecting, we encourage proposals that explore aspects of this
overarching theme, from any point on the spectrum and from the widest
possible variety of perspectives and approaches.
Workshops:
We also invite proposals for workshops in which relatively small
groups of people discuss particular issues in the field. Workshop
proposals should include an explanation of how discussion will be
generated. This could involve the circulation of a text to
pre-registered participants or brief presentations by a guest or a
panel, but any contribution should serve to stimulate discussion.
Proposals are specifically invited for a workshop (limited to 12
people) to be held in the Walters Rare Book Room; for one or more to
be held in the Chamber of Wonders (limited to about 30; role of
miracles in Christian art; science, technology and art; virtuosity;
materials; collecting; presentation of art; etc.); and for one in one
of the Dutch Cabinet Galleries (limited to about 12).
Prospective session and workshop proposals should be sent via e-mail
and as hard copy by October 1, 2005 to:
