Dear colleagues
Just to keep you informed. Following Rohan's message last week about the
Europe Direct story on the BBC Radio 4 programme 'You and yours', I did send
them an email last Thursday alerting them to the fact that 'Europe Direct' is
fundamentally a 'rebranding' exercise of the existing Info Points and
Carrefours'. The UK did not have Info Points because we have long-established
networks such as EDCs, EDC and EPICS so we are already well provided. While
accepting that there probably is a political dimension to the FCO line on this,
nevertheless it would seem sensible for the UK Government to think a little
longer whether we actually need yet more networks, or whether we should make
better use of the existing ones.
I got an acknowledgement that they might read it out on Friday or subsequently.
I don't know if they have.
Best wishes
Ian
