ASSOCIATION FOR THE STUDY OF MODERN ITALY (ASMI)
2005 ASMI Graduate Essay Prize
The Association for the Study of Modern Italy (ASMI) is pleased to announce
the 2005 ASMI Graduate Essay Prize.
The ASMI Graduate Essay Prize will be awarded to an outstanding piece of
unpublished work by a graduate student, dealing with some aspect of modern
Italy (history, society, politics, culture) in the period between 1780 and
the present. The work may be an essay, article, dissertation or chapter of
a thesis between 5,000 and 10,000 words in length.
The cash value of the prize will be 500 Euros (approximately £300). In
addition the prize-winning work will be considered for publication in the
Association's journal Modern Italy, subject to the journal's normal
refereeing procedures. The prize will be publicly presented to the winner
during the Association's Annual Conference in November 2005.
The deadline for submissions is September 15, 2005.

Eligibility: students currently registered for a doctoral degree or who
have been awarded a PhD not more than twelve months before the closing date
for this competition. Submissions should be written in either English or
Italian, and must not currently be under consideration for publication.
Work that exceeds the word limits stated above will not be accepted.
