Since about last autumn we've had a pattern of our daily numbers of
emergency admissions regularly dipping at weekends. It didn't seem obvious
before then; and I can't think of any change that would explain it (GP out
of hours changes and increased A and E middle grade staffing from about May;
no changes to A and E or inpatient consultant roles; 4 hour target doing OK
before it happened and not much management push, got worse early this year
and managers flapped, got better last month but no change to weekend dips).
Anyone else got the same thing (or for that matter, anyone in our
surrounding departments noticed that they seem to get a surge in emergency
admissions at weekends) or an explanation of why? Am I missing something
obvious here?
