Hi Sue,
in terms of fiction, many of Neal Stephenson's books feature digital
life in one form or another - for example Cryptonomicon as a pre/early
history, or Snow Crash as a possible future. Jeff Noon pushes those
possibilities even further in Vurt, and his Cobralingus which is a kind
of digital remix in print (which sounds like a bad idea, but I found an
interesting experiment).
Sadie Plant's Zeros + Ones, which focuses on women's contributions in
the formation of digital technologies, is still one of my favourite
non-fiction books in this area.
cheers,
chris
