Hi, everyone! My name is Dawn Gilpin, and I'm a doctoral student in the Mass
Media and Communication program at Temple University in Philadelphia. My main
research interests lie in the space between organizations, the media and public
policy, as well as popular culture. I am specializing in narrative theory and
analysis, network analysis, chaos/complexity and other nonlinear models for
studying communication and culture.
I've been writing online since 1998, in various forms, and have become
interested in how people use the Internet as a vehicle for sharing personal
narratives. In the last couple of years I've also become involved in an online
fandom, which opens up whole new ways of communicating by exchanging different
interpretations of the stories told onscreen, negotiation of diverse meanings,
and of course fanfiction and meta-analyses.
I'm looking forward to discussing a variety of fascinating topics on this list.
