Hi Monica,

I have looked at over 40 UK institutions about how far they have come in
implementing an institution-wide portal solution.
I gathered the data for a comparative analysis, to establish if the portal
hype "created" by jasig consortiuum and others was really living up to its
expectations and how many UK institutions have really sorted out its
anticipating problems so far, i.e. licensing agreements, single sign-on etc.
And what we could learn from it.
The report never got really far, because change of management last year meant
also a change of project.
If you send me your e-mail I can send you the report. If it is of any use to
you or anyone else than I'm glad to help.

Best wishes,

Yvonne

Hi all

In terms of the JISC we don't have that consolidated information about portal
implementation within UK institutions. However there was talk at the last
JA-SIG meeting that there should be some centrally coordinated register?....
which shows what portal software institutions have implemented. I don't
think there has been any movement on this...but I could be wrong.

Not strictly what you asked for but a useful link nevertheless:

http://www.educause.edu/LibraryDetailPage/666?ID=SWR0304

.. Powerpoint presentation detailing the results of Accenture study on portal
usage in (international) HEIs.

I'd be interested to hear if you get any other responses on UK uptake.

Does anyone know of a source that makes a statement regarding the extent of
implementation and uptake of portals in UK HE/FE? Preferably recent.

I have looked at various reosurces from the JISC portals programme page and
case studies, but couldn't spot one (though of course I may have missed
something). I am aware of the Bristol page:
http://www.bris.ac.uk/is/projects/portal/portalbytes

Does anyone have any other pointers?

Many thanks,
Monica Duke
