Aslib Training is running a number of events in April; the courses taking
place in the first half of the month are listed below:
- Building and Deploying Corporate Taxonomies
(www.aslib.com/training/4/06.html) - the course on 5th April is fully
booked. New date: 8 June 2005
- Metadata: Principles and Practice (www.aslib.com/training/4/21.html) 6
April 2005. Metadata is one of the most important, but least understood,
aspects of the modern information environment. This course demystifies the
concept of metadata, and shows how and why it is used, in a variety of
environments. A variety of commonly-used metadata formats will be
demonstrated for example Dublin Core, and AACR/MARC - and the way in which
metadata creation relates to the 'traditional' library/information tasks of
indexing and cataloguing will be outlined. Library/information workers are
often called to create metadata records; they may also be asked to evaluate,
choose or create metadata formats for their organisation's information. This
course deals with both these topics, in principle and in practice.
- Health and Medical Information on the Internet
(www.aslib.com/training/1/08.html) 7 April 2005.
- Knowledge Management (www.aslib.com/training/3/01.html) new date: 12 April
2005. This seminar will give you an understanding of what knowledge
management is, how it has emerged from several key strands of management
thinking and a useful review of many of the initiatives that can and are
being implemented. Perhaps most importantly it will encourage you to respond
positively to the opportunity and the challenge represented by this subject.
- Understanding and Assessing Information Needs
(www.aslib.com/training/4/24.html) - the course on 13 April is fully booked.
New date: 13 July 2005.
- Developing an Effective Team (www.aslib.com/training/2/03.html) 14 April
2005.
- Electronic Serials Management (www.aslib.com/training/4/10.html) 15 April
