Dear friends, colleagues and students,

Just a final reminder, abstracts are due April 1 for the upcoming
INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE STUDY OF SEXUALITY, CULTURE AND SOCIETY's
Conference on Sexual Rights and Moral Panics to be held at San Francisco
State University, June 21-24. We are hoping to get several particular
sessions on disability and sexuality, as well as have some disability and
sexuality papers in other sessions. We are hoping for a balance of
academic/research and advocacy oriented work within the broad scope of
sexual rights and disability. If you want to run a paper abstract or idea
by me before officially submitting an abstract, my email address is
[log in to unmask] This will be a large international conference and a
good place to dialogue with other sexuality researchers on issues that
concern us. I hope you will consider submitting an abstract. See below for
description of conference. Best wishes,

Russell

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

We are currently accepting abstract submissions for the 2005 IASSCS
Conference on Sexual Rights and Moral Panics. Join academics, teachers,
students, advocates, NGOs and CBOs, policymakers and health providers from
around the world as they discuss original research and provide workshops on
the intersection of sexual rights and moral panics globally and in the U.S.

What are sexual rights? Why do sexual rights so often provoke moral panics?
Moral panics have historically surrounded issues such as sexual purity,
abortion, homosexuality, sexuality education, and sexual violence. More
recently reproductive technologies, LGBTQI identities, disabilities, and
same sex marriages have been at the center of moral controversies. This
conference examines how society and the media respond to these debates by
analyzing the production of moral and sexual panics, past and present.

Deadline for submission of abstracts: April 1st, 2005
