RESEARCHER: URBAN GREEN SPACE AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
Applications are invited for a researcher to work on a project
investigating the relationship between the quality of urban green spaces
and levels of physical activity in urban residents. This is collaborative
research between the University of East Anglia, the University of Oxford,
and the University of Bristol, funded by the CABE Space (The Commission
for Architecture and the Built Environment). The research project involves
the development of a tool to determine the suitability of urban green
spaces for physical activity, the use of the tool to audit the quality of
green spaces in the city of Norwich, and the analysis of data linking the
results of the quality audit with information on self reported physical
activity amongst a large cohort of residents. The researcher will be based
in the School of Environmental Sciences at UEA in Norwich.
The successful applicant will have excellent organisational and
interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently. At least a
good honours degree in social science, geography, environmental science,
epidemiology, statistics, or a related discipline is required. Experience
of undertaking social surveys and leading focus groups would be
advantageous, together with experience in the use of Geographical
Information Systems and the statistical analysis of data. A PhD or MSc
degree in a relevant subject would be a substantial advantage.
Starting salary will be in the range £19,460 to £21,640 per annum. The
starting date is as soon as possible, and the post is available for a
fixed term of 9 months.
