Topic: Poverty and Disability
Focus:
* Poverty and Disability: links and interdependencies between
disability and poverty in transitional, low and middle income countries
* Disabled people and poverty: International, national and local
initiatives within international development for the reduction of poverty
1. Introduction (1 Article - 10 pages):
a. Interdependencies between poverty and disability. How do poverty and
disability influence each other?
b. Global strategies of poverty reduction and human rights (MDG, PRSP)
and their links with disabled people (e.g. UN Convention for the Rights of
Persons with Disabilities). How can international organizations, national
NGOs and local organizations fight poverty within the framework of the
global strategies? Do international initiatives meet the needs of low and
middle income countries in the context of disability?
2. The example of an international disability NGO in the field of
poverty reduction (1 article - 6 pages): Which effects do international
strategies and goals have (PRSP, MDG) in the field of poverty reduction of
disabled people?
3. National Organisations (1 or 2 articles - 6 pages): Examples of two
countries which are trying to implement international poverty reduction
strategies for disabled people (Link to CBR).
4. Local organisations (1 article - 6 pages): Projects of local NGOs to
reduce the poverty of disabled people.
5. Disabled Peoples' Organisations (1 article - 6 pages): How can
Disabled Peoples' Organisations influence the process of poverty reduction
and how can they break the interdependencies between disability and poverty?
Please send the abstracts of the articles until 18 March 2005 to Stefan
Lorenzkowski ([log in to unmask]). We will review the abstracts
and get in touch with the authors and ask for a final submission until 29
April 2005.
We also would welcome the suggestions for publications which will be added
to the Literature Review section.
