The Royal Irish Academy Committee for History is convening
this symposium to look at the challenges facing the History
Curriculum.
Following outlines of the curriculums, North and South, by
Carmel Gallagher and Pat Callan, the day will proceed with
masterclasses on the use of sources. John Horne will be
examining visual sources with National Monuments and
Identity in Europe 1870-1914, Dermot Keogh will be looking
at documentary sources with the De Valera’s 1937
constitution and Siegfried Beer will be contextualising the
Cold War Movie ‘The Third Man’. Donnchadh O Corrain will
speak on textbook developments and Patrick Speight on BBC
Northern Ireland’s History Websites. The symposium will
close with an open forum on current issues and future
developments. Admission is free but it is necessary to
pre-book.
