Dear David--
Try Hugh Sanford, who worked for the Countess of Pembroke (with Daniel) and
who helped prepare the 1593 edition of Sidney's Arcadia.
Hope that helps.

Subject: Samuel Daniel's friend Hugh Samford; online history resources
In the passage on feminine rhyme I quoted earlier, Samuel Daniel
mentions that he took counsel on the matter with his "kinde friend and
countri-man Maister Hugh Samford." As of this writing, I still don't
know who is this Master Samford (he's not in the new ONDB), but on the
way to not finding out, I did stumble on something that will be of
interest, http://www.british-history.ac.uk/ It's a free site sponsored
by the University of London and the History of Parliament Trust.
Includes, inter alia, searchable texts of the "Calendar of the state
papers held by The National Archives relating to the first years of the
reign of James I" and the "Journal of the House of Commons" for
1547-1629. The sources here are better for 17C than 16C, but there's
lots here for everyone, and lots on London.
P.S. If you know anything about this Samford chap, please tell me. I'm
assuming Daniel's "countri-man" = someone from "north Somerset...or
further to the east on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire" (ODNB for S.
Daniel's birthplace).
