WRIGHT, Matthew [[log in to unmask]] has been very
helpful to us, and supplies me with SM updates.
In August 2004 he explained the progress with the data as follows:
"The Scheduling data is now in polygon form for the post-1988 monuments.
The Old County (historical) scheduling dataset is still ' work in
progress' but we hope to have a complete polygon dataset by early next
year. In the meantime there is the point theme for that dataset."

On the MAGIC site it says refer enquiries to Brian Hopper
[log in to unmask] and in the information I received
from ALGAO it said make a regular NMR enquiry. I have done the latter &
no response of acknowledgement yet.
I guess more patience is required!

Hi Sarah
Cannot shed any light on this, but have also noticed that only those SMs
which have been revised and don't have the old county numbers appear as
polygons on MAGIC.
Still, something is better than nothing and I guess we should replace
our home grown polygons with the official version, where it exists.
Do you (or anyone else out there) know who in EH we need to contact to
get hold of these?
Many thanks
Nigel

Subject: Scheduled Monuments on MAGIC
Hello all
Can anyone shed some light on this?
We have been told that at the last EH/ALGAO working party English
Heritage confirmed that the Scheduled Monument polygon layer on MAGIC
would in future be regarded by EH as the definitive areas for Scheduled
Monuments. Following on it was decided that HERs could request a
digital data supply of SM to ensure they had access to the definitive
data, which I have dutifully done! I now look on MAGIC to see that
some of the SMs are still point data. I assumed that a complete
polygonised dataset would be available. How can a "indicative point" be
regarded as definitive? We are then referred back to the descriptions
for the definitive descriptions, which for the old schedulings don't
actually exist on the documentation...
Sarah
