Folks, I hasten to add a clarification.
We (the storage middleware group) have a close - and I like to think
good - relationship with the Tier 1 people, we provide ADS knowledge
and support; they have expertise and hardware, both of which we
(the storage group) have benefited from. I like to think of it
as a good working relationship where each group can exchange experiences
and expertise with the other, to the benefit of all, and to the
benefit of GridPP2.
But - just to clarify - it's not the Tier 1 's job to support us
with services.
By the proformas, we are obliged to provide software and support to
the Tier 1. Andrew's proforma specifies that he provides infrastructure
to the experiments. Beyond that, Andrew et al have been generous enough
to give us also development boxes, and we have been, and are, very
grateful for that.
If Owen feels constrained by the lack of software development
infrastructure, that is very unfortunate. Owen is an experienced
developer, and if he complains, I listen. But complaining about
the Tier 1 is misguided; they are providing us a service as friends
and collaborators, and if something more is required it is certainly
not their fault.
Hope this makes it clearer.
Thanks,
