POSITION: RECREATION, PARKS, & TOURISM ADMINISTRATION - Full-time, academic
year, tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor, Recreation, Parks, &
Tourism Administration Program of the Natural Resources Management
Department at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, California. Beginning date is
September 12, 2005. Responsibilities and duties include teaching
undergraduate core courses in recreation, parks, and tourism administration,
graduate courses and courses in an area of expertise in tourism management
and planning and/or special events management. Duties include, but are not
limited to, supervision of undergraduate senior projects, graduate student
research, and academic advising. As a part of professional development, the
successful candidate is expected to participate in scholarly activities and
carry out a focused area of scholarship (research, grant writing,
publications, presentations) in tourism and/or events management. Service
to the university community and local, state, and national tourism and/or
events organizations is expected. Salary is commensurate with qualifications
and experience.
QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate degree required in recreation, parks and tourism,
leisure studies or a closely related discipline. Applicants should have a
combination of teaching, practical and/or research experience in recreation,
parks, tourism, and/or events management. Experience working with tourism,
event and marketing destination service providers such as a conference and
visitor bureau, chamber of commerce and regional tourism council is
desirable.

DEPARTMENT: The Natural Resources Management Department of the College of
Agriculture offers a B.S. in Recreation, Parks, & Tourism Administration, an
M.S. in Agriculture with a specialization in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism
Management, a B.S. in Forestry and Natural Resources, a B.S. in
Environmental Management and Protection, and an M.S. in Forestry Sciences.
The Recreation, Parks, & Tourism Administration program, accredited by
NRPA/AALR, offers areas of study in Tourism Management and Planning, Natural
Resources Recreation, Special Events Management, Sport Management and
Community Recreation.
