Robert Vermaat asks Clive Hallam appropriating Queen Gertrude's words ("The
lady doth protest too much, methinks.") from Hamlet Act III scene 2:
> Is that the best you can do? <
Mr Hallam seems however not to have noticed the irony in that the "lady" in
this
play-within-a-play to whom Gertude refers is in fact herself.
I personally would far prefer not to have to "protest" at all about personal
attacks posted on this academic discussion list in lieu of actual meritorial
discussion, and I am sure this is a sentiment that the majority of
non-detecting Britarchers would share.
