Just been talking to an ex-SHO who is now a GP Registrar who is finding
problem with gaining OOH experience in GP as all GPs in the local practices
now do not do OOH cover. His entire commitment for 1 year is 40 hours as
supernumerary attending the local GP on-call centre OOH. He says the
surroundings are luxurious compared to hospital, the work load very light
and trivial, and the money far higher than we pay for A&E sessions. As
our OOH centre has been running for several years patients have learned that
if they are ill not to go there but straight to A&E. This bears out our
experience with the type of referrals we get from the OOH service.
