medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I got drafted into giving a talk about "The DaVinci Code" to my college's alums last summer and have been following the tempest over the novel since it came out. I haven't read Ehrman's book, but the one source of the few I've read that I found most useful for debunking its claims in a more or less non-sectarian way is the first of the expose books to be published: "Secrets of the Code. The Unauthorized Guide to the Mysteries Behind the DaVinci Code" edited by Dan Burstein. Its virtue is that it is an anthology of all sorts of authorities–some academic, some not; some anti-Code, some not–addressing all the issues (theological, artistic, historical) raised in the novel. It also has a rather hilarious page-by-page account of all the errors of detail scattered throughout the book–Brown's geography of the streets of Paris is apparently especially jumbled.
Best,
John
