"The Precentor also intimates to the Bishop any chants that the Bishop
begins." (I don't think the Dean got involved.)
You have to think of what happens at the high altar as being somewhat
separate from what happens in the choir. For example, while the choir is
singing the Agnus Dei the presbytery group are involved with the celebrant's
communion and then reading the Agnus Dei.
The presbytery group consists of three ministers (celebrant, deacon and
sub-deacon) and four servers (acolyte, thurifer and two taperers) - but
these numbers can be drastically increased for certain feasts if the Bishop
is the celebrant: on Maundy Thursday and Whit Sunday he had seven deacons,
seven sub-deacons and three acolytes!
