10th International Conference on USER MODELING UM05
http://gate.ac.uk/conferences/um2005/
Final Call for Doctoral Consortium Papers
==============================================
SUBMISSION DEADLINE EXTENDED TO February 10, 2005
The UM05 Committee invites doctoral consortium papers to be presented as
part of the 10th International Conference on User
Modeling (UM05) to be held from July 24th to July 30, 2005 in Edinburgh,
Scotland.
General Information
Continuing a tradition that started in 1994, the UM Doctoral Consortium
aims to provide qualified Ph.D. students with the opportunity to present
their on-going research to the UM community. The Doctoral Consortium is
a great forum to receive useful feedback from a knowledgeable audience,
to exchange ideas, compare approaches and meet fellow researchers in the
field. Submissions should describe Ph.D. research that is at a stage
where feedback from the broader UM community might be of value. Thus, we
expect students to be close to make their research proposal, or to have
made it but have at least a year of work remaining before completion of
their thesis. Submissions must be a maximum of three pages (including
references) and should clearly specify:
* the problem(s) that the proposed research is addressing
* the main contribution(s) of the research to the UM field
* the proposed solution(s), including a brief description of work
already done and a tentative plan for future work.
DC papers topics should be related to the conference topics:
* acquisition, updating and management of user models and student
models
* security and privacy aspects in the management of user data
* evaluation of user modeling techniques
* user model representation standards
* user model information sharing in ubiquitous services and smart
environments
* user modeling servers
* user modeling in the Semantic Web
* user modeling and adaptive systems
* applications of user modeling systems and techniques
* data mining for personalization and cross-recommendation
* affective computing
* adaptation to people with disabilities and the elderly
* adaptive hypermedia and Web systems
* intelligent information retrieval, information filtering and
content personalization
* collaborative filtering and recommender systems
* adaptive user interfaces
* dialog planning and response tailoring
* plan recognition and generation
* presentation planning
* recognition and correction of misconceptions
* intelligent tutoring systems
* human-computer cooperation, user support
* adaptive learning environments
* personalized Web sites and services
* personalized interaction in Virtual Reality and 3D Interfaces
* personalized interaction in mobile, ubiquitous and
context-aware computing
* embodied animated agents
* support of collaboration and group modeling
* engineering adaptive systems
Submission format:
* Maximum of 3 pages (including references)
* Please stay as close as possible to the formatting instructions
available at http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html In
particular, papers must adhere to the following:
o The printing area of each page should be 122mm by 193mm.
o Use 10 point type for the names of authors, and 9 point type
for their addresses and the abstract.
o Use 10 point type and single line spacing for the main body
of the paper. Computer Modern Roman or Times fonts are
preferred.
Submission instructions:
* Papers should be submitted as electronic pdf files. If electronic
submission in pdf form will be problematic, please contact Kalina
Bontcheva (_kalina (at) dcs.shef.ac.uk_) to discuss alternatives,
including hardcopy.
* Please send the submission on or before February 10, 2005 as an
attachment to an email message to both UM05 doctoral consortium
chairs: _Kalina Bontcheva (kalina (at) dcs.shef.ac.uk_) and Jon
Oberlander (_J.Oberlander (at) ed.ac.uk_). Please use subject
line: UM05 Doctoral Consortium Paper Submission.
* You will receive a response within three days confirming that we
received your submission and were able to print it.
If you have any questions regarding submissions, please send email to
_kalina (at) dcs.shef.ac.uk_.
