You know, there's some truth in that. Last month, in a hospital not that
far from here, there were loads of breaches one weekend as the consultant
refused (declined) to come in in the middle of the night and queuebust
minors. The following weekend that same unit was given 48 man-hours of
extra locum cover so that it wouldn't happen again, and the consultants are
no longer asked to queuebust in the middle of the night. That'll be a
projected additional cost of some £90K per annum, but I suppose this is
still a bit cheaper than most consultants these days. I reckon the trust
got a good deal, especially as the management weren't sacked!
