I'm concerned that the Roy Meadows hearing has acquired elements of
knee-jerk show-trial victim-seeking witch-baiting.
I have not read the transcripts - and the worst things may be not just this
one trial, but 'persistent enemy action' throughout RM's career.
Regarding this trial, key facts for this hearing seem to be
* RM unwisely gave the 73-million figure
* he reportedly failed to explain its meaning (I assume the reports are
correct)
* learned council and judges completely missed the important questions they
should have asked. (This includes the defence team, who may be far more
culpable than the 'expert'.)
Also (far worse)
** several mothers (and dads) were wickedly mis-treated by the law.
The Guardian reports that RM arrived "To shouts from (Mothers who were
wrongly jailed for killing their babies ) of "apologies, that's what we
want"".
If apologies is genuinely what they want, then I'm surprised he does not
just apologise. (Or are lawyers and doctors not trained to do this?)
But I suspect they also want blood on the wall (and maybe compensation).
However, if I were them I would be looking for lawyers' entrails and £££ as
much as RM's.
I agree with Ted's point that we need to be ready with a press-release to
avoid statistics getting a bad press.
