Subject: The Headline Debate on Science and Risk - Free tickets for Psi-com
subscribers
Are you more likely to be hit by a car or die from bird flu? Behind the
biggest science headlines lurk one concept - risk. From epidemics to
climate change, risk determines which science stories get coverage, what
you'll read about them and what politicians do in response. But how do we
know how truly risky something is? The media may distort risk in the hunt
for a good story, but is that better than having the story go unreported?
For the fourth in our series of Headline Debates, we've chosen to get a
grip on the topic of risk. To help us do that will be an expert on the
study of risk, Prof Bill Durodie, plus Elliot Morley, the Secretary of
State for Climate Change and Environment, and Observer columnist Mary
Riddell. Guiding the proceedings as always will be journalist and
broadcaster Sheena McDonald. The entire discussion is driven by audience
questions, so you'll be at the centre of this spontaneous debate.
Be a part of the audience, and come armed with questions for our panel!
Tickets are free for psci-com subscribers, and can be booked on 020 7409
2992.
The Headline Debate happens on Thursday 27 October at 7.00pm, at the Royal
Institution, 21 Albemarle Street, W1 (Tube: Green Park)
