New: NRC Femtosecond Science Post-doctoral Position in CARS Microscopy
The Femtosecond Science Program at the National Research Council, Ottawa,
Canada (http://steacie.nrc-
cnrc.gc.ca/research_programs/femtoscience/fs_index_e.html) is a world-
leading group with research programs in strong field physics, attosecond
science, ultrafast molecular dynamics and coherent quantum control,
combined with outstanding infrastructure and technical resources. We have
recently initiated a new multi-disciplinary Biophotonics program in non-
linear optical microscopy, applied to live cell imaging, based upon
Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering (CARS). This new program includes
national and international collaborations with optical physicists,
synthetic chemists and cell biologists. We combine coherent control pulse-
shaping and heterodyne methods with Raman-labelled biomolecule schemes to
the enhancement of both resolution and sensitivity in CARS microscopy of
processes in living cells. A new state-of-the art fs laser/microscopy
facility has been constructed for this purpose. Interested candidates with
a background in non-linear optical spectroscopy and/or microscopy are
especially encouraged to apply. The position is available as of 1 September
2005 or after. The NRC Femtosecond Science Program has an outstanding track
record for placing post-docs in academic positions in Europe, North America
and Asia: to date, 100% of all our post-docs have gone on to academic
positions.
