Postdoctoral research position: Scientific Technologies in the Visual Arts
Salary: Researcher B. Point 27 - £22,774 - £23,503 per annum. Location: Farnham
Applications are invited for a Researcher to work on a one year interdisciplinary project exploring the potential for using advanced scientific technologies in the visual arts. The project is entitled: "The hunt for submarines in classical art; mappings between scientific invention and artistic inspiration" and is funded under the Arts and Humanities Research Council's ICT Strategy Projects scheme.
The Researcher will be required to explore the potential use, within visual arts, of advanced imaging technologies developed in certain medical and military arenas. Taking a structured information-gathering approach, he or she will: conduct a focused survey of relevant scientific research into such technologies; elicit a number of clearly-defined visual arts needs; and identify useful links between the two.
The successful applicant will, ideally, have a Doctorate relating to Information Communications Technology and experience in, or a strong commitment to the visual arts. Expertise in imaging technologies and the Internet would be an advantage. He or she will be working as part of a small team within the Visual Arts Centre for the Arts and Humanities Data Service (AHDS Visual Arts) which is based at the University College for the Creative Arts at Farnham. Flexibility and the ability to work as part of a team are essential, as are excellent communication skills and the ability to plan and implement projects and work to deadlines.
