GIS Development Officer
Salary: £26,157- £28,179 p.a.

This a technical project manager role reporting directly to the GIS
Manager. The post holder will make a senior contribution to the
implementation and development of GIS, planning the expansion and
enhancement of GIS services, LLPG integration and web-based mapping
applications in the Council and helping to coordinate the team’s work
programme.

You will be expected to progress work on a number of development and
support projects in parallel without supervision and to produce project
plans and appropriate progress reports as required. You will also supervise
the activities for a number of staff assisting in the implementation of GIS
projects. The ability to work to key indicators and targets is essential.

You will hold a degree in a relevant discipline, have a minimum of four
years experience of managing GIS or relevant I.T. projects, including
support and development, within a large organisation and preferably have
experience of working in a Local Authority. You would also ideally have a
recognised qualification in project management.

North Somerset Council’s Corporate GIS Service is a core information source
to staff and the general public. There are three vacancies available at
different levels to join an exciting team delivering Council wide GIS
services using MapInfo, Internet mapping applications and managing the
Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG).

Location
The Council Offices are located in Weston-super-Mare, which is famed for
its beach, and is the main town in North Somerset which stretches from the
banks of the Severn Estuary in the north, to the Mendip hills in the south.
The town is a mixture of old charm and modern technology, full of small
businesses geared towards tourism along with hotels, guest houses and a
great variety of shops.
