"What's New" is a summary of selected recent activity in the field of
digital preservation, compiled by Michael Day of UKOLN, University of
Bath, and Marian Hanley and Gerard Clifton of the National Library of
Australia. Items are compiled from the Preserving Access to Digital
Information (PADI) Gateway and the digital-preservation and padiforum-l
mailing lists, although additional or related items of interest may also
be included.
Issue 10 features news on projects funded by the Library of Congress
National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program
(NDIIPP) and the National Science Foundation, and includes news from the
PREMIS Working Group, US National Science Board, DigiCULT, the Digital
Preservation Coalition (DPC), Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC)
and the International Council for Science (ICSU).
Specific activities noted include the publication of the PREMIS Working
Group's final report, which contains a data model, data dictionary,
examples and implementation guidance for preservation metadata.
The bulletin also includes summaries of recent publications on the
themes of peer-to-peer preservation systems, management of scientific
data, metadata and object packaging and storage media and computer
forensics. Summaries of other selected recent publications and
information on past and forthcoming events are also provided.
