John, get them to tell you the details of the credit card holder and then you can verify if it is the same person as your patient. If it is not then invite credit card company to make a section 29 request. Also consider that the billing name of your hospital may not be the same name by which the patient knows you. This is a common occurrence causing credit card companies numerous headaches.

Subject: Disclosure of contact details to a credit card company
Advice would be much appreciated on this situation, if anyone can help.
A patient has paid for some treatment at our hospital by credit card. The
credit card company has contacted us to say that the cardholder has queried
the amount on his statement and has no knowledge of the transaction. They
have intimated that they think it may be a case of fraud and are asking for
the name and address of our patient.
Am I able to disclose this information so they can follow through with their
investigation? Obviously no health information or details of the nature of
the treatment will be disclosed, but I'm not sure about contact details
under these circumstances.
Thanks
