Until we allow an unlimited statement length, or come up with a way to
"initialize" parts of a parameter, we need the DATA statement. It is a
real pain to develop a tree of parameters to initialize an array. For a
really big array, it might put some strain on the memory space available
to the compiler (but then again there may be a clever -- or even simple
-- way around this).
