as a late addition:
the ELVIS vi clone (which is the basic vi on many Linux systems) has a general
language syntax-highlighting facility. This is controlled by a configuration
file (elvis.syn) which is user-updateable (or at least installer-updateable,
anyway). The version I use (2.1.4) has a somewhat shaky Fortran 77 highlighting
availiable, but this could be updated (and may have been, for all I know, in
more recent versions of ELVIS). This is one of those jobs I have meant to get
round to...
ELVIS is available on Windows and a range of other Unix systems, as well as
Linux. It also has a nice built-in HTML help system.
cheers
