Dear Folks,
On this thread there is a paper using Jane Sidell's very nice ID's of
bird egg shell recovered from inland sites in the Mývatn area of inland
Iceland that is currently in review for Environmental Archaeology, and
I'll be glad to send anyone the draft version. The results were rather
cool, in that as expected most of the egg shells were from ducks (the
lake is a major nesting area), some from Ptarmigan (Lagopus mutus, the
most common bird in the bone collections),but also some from alcid
family sea birds (Murre or Guillemot, Uria sp.) whose nearest nesting
colonies are 60-70 km away.
All the best
Tom

Dear collegues,
I am looking for persons, who are studying eggshells. I am very
interested in the topic, as I have collected data about 750 graves
including eggshells from the Avar period from the present territory of
Hungary I would be interested in researches about identifying the
types of eggshells.
I am also very intersted in any articles about this.
I have read an article written by Elizabeth J. Sidell with the title
'A methodology for the identification of a vian eggshell from
archaeological sites.' in Archaeofauna 2 (1993): 45-51.
This is exactly that I am interested in, so I would be very happy if
anyone could give me the email address or any contact of Elisabeth J.
Sidell.
Thank you very much,
Viktória Czoczek
