Dear Zooarchers,
This is a second call and reminder to those interested in speaking on the role
of hunting in post-domestication societies. So far we have a number of
speakers, and a outline list is presented below - however we could use a couple
more bodies - anyone want to speak on wild birds? Other mammals? Has anybody
made detailed comparisions with ethnographic accounts of hunting etc. Aurochs,
why do they appear on sites, just a lot of meat, or something more? I could
suggest more things I want to know about but shall await more paper offers for
now.
Examples of papers offered and provisional titles.
David Orten (Cambridge) Deer in the Middle to Late Neolithic Central Balkans
Naomi Sykes (Cardiff) Medieval peasentry and the role of hunting
Jonathon Driver (Simon Fraser University) Hunting by farming societies
in the American Southwest
Diane, Creder, (University of Southern Maine) the role
of wild fauna medieval site of Capalbiaccio, Italy.
Jacqui Mulville and Adrienne Powell, (Cardiff) 'Who killed Bambi? Red
deer in the prehistory of the Western Isles.
thanks
