There will also be a seminar organised by Greater London Branch on 30 November at Imperial College. However this will be a fee-paying event, involving speakers from FTA and TfL as well as Kit Mitchewll, author of the IHT freight Guidelines. Still a bargain at £50. May be of interest to southern-based members of UTSG. For futher details please see IHT website at www.iht.org
Best wishes

Seminar: "Moving Freight: IHT Freight Guidelines"
3rd November, 2005, from 15:00
County Hall, Durham
IHT GUIDELINES 'MOVING FREIGHT - HOW TO BALANCE ECONOMY AND ENVIRONMENT'
The IHT Guidelines on Moving Freight have been produced in co-operation with FTA and are in two parts. The first describes freight movement and its economic benefits, the environmental consequences, and legislation and policies relating to freight, to inform transport planners and local authority staff. The second part covers strategic movement of freight and freight movement by all modes in rural and urban areas. It explains how land-use planning, appropriate infrastructure, Traffic Regulation Orders and other regulations can be used to improve the economic efficiency of freight movement and reduce the adverse environmental effects. It concludes with a toolkit of measures that have been proved to assist freight operations and benefit the environment.
