Putting the traffic management act into practice
Reconciling the competing demands for road space
Following the success of Landor’s 2003 conference ‘traffic management on
local, urban and interurban routes’, and last year’s comprehensive overhaul
of the legislation surrounding traffic management, this timely event aims
to evaluate the impact of the 2004 Traffic Management Act upon a number of
stakeholders.
With these measures gradually being integrated into existing traffic
management policy this conference will address some of the key issues which
will determine the effectiveness of the new legislation and the impact it
has had on congestion in England and Wales. Consideration is given to the
charge on local authorities to employ a traffic manager; delegates will
also hear the practical experiences of traffic managers in different local
authority settings, from a County Council to a London Borough. Discussion
focuses on the implications of the Traffic Management Act for utility
companies. Will the Act result in decreased road disruption or will
utility companies be blamed for street disturbance? The conference
discusses ideas for the future of traffic management, including the
Department for Transport’s research programmes and an overview of the new
technologies which are available. Consideration will be given to
innovative new techniques which may help to solve congestion problems.
