DESCRIPTION:
Knowledge Management (KM) has been a predominant
trend in business in the recent years. Scaling-up
research prototypes to real-world solutions usually
requires an application-driven integration of several
basic technologies, e.g., ontologies for knowledge
sharing and reuse, collaboration support like CSCW
systems, and personalized information services.
Typical characteristics to be dealt with are:
manifold logically and physically dispersed actors
and knowledge sources, different degrees of
formalization of knowledge, different kinds of
(web-based) services and (legacy) systems, and
possible conflicts between local (individual) and
global (group or organizational) goals. In order to
cope with the inherent complexity of a more
comprehensive solution, the concept of Agent-mediated
Knowledge Management (AMKM) deals with collective
aspects of the domain in an attempt to cope with
the conflict between desired order and actual behavior
in dynamic environments. Inherent to AMKM is a social
layer, which structures the society of agents by
defining specific roles and possible interactions
between them. In this workshop we invite contributions
which illustrate methodological, technical and
application aspects of Agent-mediated Knowledge
Management. Another important issue in AMKM concerns
communication. In heterogeneous KM systems, knowledge
sharing is hampered by the lack of common ontologies.
Therefore, adequate support for ontology matching
and meaning negotiation is of great importance to AMKM.
We encourage approaches that do not require the agents
to adopt one common ontology, in order to better deal
with the different tasks and needs of agents in open
systems.
WHY AND TO WHOM THE WORKSHOP IS OF INTEREST:
The AMKM workshop is of interest to researchers and
practitioners in the field of information systems,
knowledge management, ontology research, and multi
agent systems. The KM scenario is application-driven
by nature. Therefore, all discussions will be spanned by
practical applications and already implemented and
running systems, but deeply rooted in theoretical
questions. The workshop will be fueled by the tension
between different relevant disciplines, and between
formal methods and practical applications and input
technologies. The workshop organization will explicitly
aim at a balanced discussion of theses aspects.

SUBMISSION DETAILS:
Paper submission is possible only by email. Authors are
requested to send a pdf file attached to an email
message to Jurriaan van Diggelen ([log in to unmask]).
The message contains the paper title, author name(s)
and affiliation(s), contact information of one of the authors,
and an abstract of at most 200 words.
The abstract identifies the main topics of the paper.
Full papers should have a maximum of 15 pages and
must be formatted using the Springer LNCS style.

In addition to full length refereed papers, we also
accept position papers. These can be submitted by email,
following the instructions given above for the regular
submissions, except for the length,
which should not exceed 2 pages. We are currently
negotiating on post-publications as a LNAI volume,
or as a special issue of a relevant journal. More
information on this will be provided as soon as
possible.
