Post Location Communicable Disease Surveillance Centre Abton House Wedal

Central to its task of preventing illness, the Communicable Disease
Surveillance Centre (CDSC), part of the National Public Health Service for
Wales, has recognised the importance of communicating its scientific
understanding of infectious diseases to professionals, the public and the
media. A key resource is our internet site
http://www.wales.nhs.uk/sites/home.cfm?OrgID=368 for which we are seeking an
editor who will also manage the site¹s content.
Your job will involve developing and maintaining the site, posting multiple
items of new information, guidance and advice per day, using information
from our own surveillance data (some of which you will prepare yourself),
supplemented with a regular digest of information and intelligence from
relevant authoritative sites around the globe (eg US CDC, WHO, ProMed) and
from the scientific literature.
We are looking for an outward looking, creative science or health graduate
with a strong scientific ethos, ideally from a field related to infectious
diseases, who can communicate scientific information, in an attractive and
effective way. Experience of working in either public health, health
promotion or scientific communication and experience of scientific research
would be an advantage, as would a higher degree. You will join our small
multidisciplinary team, which is responsible for monitoring the occurrence
of infectious diseases in Wales and for advising on policy, as well as
helping local health officials in the investigation of outbreaks and
incidents. Thus, also important are initiative and the ability to work as
part of a team, as well as a clear appreciation of the duty of
confidentiality in health settings.
