David, I'm not being aggressive here either. I have never thought art is
about comfort; it is a necessity that is nothing to do with consolation. Or
even use. Of course it doesn't solve anything, of course it is futile; that
is where one begins. But that doesn't leave it, either, in the ghetto of
"art for art's sake"; the relationship is more complex and dare I say more
profound than that, a question of fractures perhaps. But it is most
certainly not a question of either/or.
