Hi Dominic
I reckon pleasure matters. I wouldn't read poetry if it didn't give me
pleasure. And I have a bit of a problem with the kind of mindset (which is
equally conventional) that sidelines pleasure as as a merely ornamental and
disposable aspect of life, and believes in kind of metaphorical cold showers
and other puritan-sounding things. Call me frivolous (many do). Even
bourgeois (which is true). But you know some ideas that are still running
vital are much more than two millennia old...it's how they evolve in
specific works that interests me.
