Just to say that I have been drinking Stella in the pub and have come back
for Election Night on TV. In the pub with me I had Tony Harrison's new book
and Thom Gunn's selection of Pound. Tony is very mediocre nowadays but I
found out why he doesnt like my German poem. It seems he has an antipathy
for Germans. But it was lovely to listen to Ezra's ear again in a selection
which was different from the usual. Although I missed my favourite poem
'Near Perigord'.. a broken bundle of mirrors. Pound has a marvellous ear and
is a poet. More than I would say of Thomas Meyer after downloading his book.
I also noticed in Waterstones today that Vol 2 of the monumental life of
Yeats is out in paperback at a very expensive price. I will have to debate
whether to buy the two volumes but I know the story inside out already so
what is the point. Better to reread the Collected Poems. It is a pity that
poets nowadays are such pygmies by comparison.
