Dear list (especially NHS colleagues),
Does anyone have a policy regarding the use of Varivax for prophylaxis
for susceptible chicken pox contacts?
I have recently had a PGD passed for it's use both as primary
immunisation for susceptible healthcare workers and for prophylaxis for
susceptible contacts. However, I am still writing the policy regarding
it's use for prophylaxis and am unsure what (if any) a necessary
exclusion period will be for exposed contacts given this vaccine. In
the absence of definitive data, I currently feel that the exclusion
should remain at 21 days post final contact with the infected person but
I will be happy to be guided by other experienced colleagues. My
Infection Control team are also unsure.
Any advice would be welcome.
