InterAccess Electronic Media Arts Centre is a not-for-profit artist-run
centre in Toronto, Canada that enables artists and the general public to
explore the intersections of art and technology. We are currently seeking an
individual to fulfill the position of Executive Director.
POSITION MANDATE:
The mandate of InterAccess is to expand the cultural space of technology.
The InterAccess Executive Director is the driving force behind the
organizationıs mandate and vision, navigating the stability and growth of
the organization in all areas related to its strategic development,
programming and special projects. Working with the Board of Directors, the
Program Manager, the Communications Manager, Studio Manager and the Business
Manager the position ensures that the overall activities of the organization
are in keeping with its mission. The Executive Director is a visionary with
social entrepreneurial skills and a rich contact base, and will optimize the
capacity of the organization by generating various types of support to its
programs and services.
The ideal candidate will be energetic and goal-oriented, will have
background in or knowledge of the media arts/electronic arts landscape in
Canada and abroad, possess excellent organizational and communication
skills, have experience in curatorial research practices, public relations,
budget management, and grant writing.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:
1. Executive and Curatorial direction: With the Board of Directors will
develop an overall vision and workplan for InterAccess requisite to the
mission statement. With input from the Program Manager and the Programming
Advisory Committee, the Executive Director sets the overall artistic and
curatorial direction of the organization for each season, including the use
of facilities, education and workshop programs; with the Board of Directors
will develop goals for the organization; supervises the Program Manager,
Communications Coordinator and Studio Manager to ensure smooth
implementation of such programs; monitors programs as they progress. Manages
the overall operation of the facility. Chairs the Program Advisory
Committee.
2. Financial Administration: Development of a budget commensurate with the
programming and operational needs of the organization. Directs the overall
strategy to annual budget, working with the Business Manager, including
development and maintenance of budget for core programs. Maintenance of the
reporting system; liaison with bookkeeper; accounts payable, accounts
receivables, Payroll and Personnel Administration. Management of all aspects
of banking. Liaison with external auditor.
3. Strategic development: Identifying new funding opportunities and
partnerships; maintaining and strengthening current relationships;
identifying opportunities (domestic and international) for financial and
profile enhancement.
4. Grant applications/proposal writing: Working with the staff and Board,
leading the direction of grant applications for core funding (TAC, OAC, CC);
developing project grant applications, as required; grant reporting.
5. Special project assessment and overall management: Assesses special
project proposals for eligibility for consideration as they are received;
manages assessment of proposals; creates and maintains relations with
external producers as projects progress. Responsible for successful
conclusion to each special project.
6. Marketing communications: Working with the staff to create clear and
concise communications of InterAccessı programs and member services.
7. Liaise with community: Creates and fosters good relationships with core
membership and electronic media arts community in Canada and abroad.
8. Personnel: Participates in hiring of staff and contract workers.
9. Statutory functions: government reporting, attendance at Board and
Programming Advisory Committee meetings.
10. Delegation: Delegates appropriate responsibilities to staff under the
Executive Directorıs supervision.
11. Internal communications: Maintains open and clear channels of
communication with the Board of Directors, staff and committees of the
Board; attending meetings when needed; writes monthly report to the Board.
Prepares monthly activities and budget reports to the Board of Directors.
Prepares year end report for the AGM.
HOURS AND COMPENSATION:
The position requires 35 hours per week (5 days per week). Annual salary is
commensurate with experience. Initially, vacation allowance is 2 weeks, and
becomes 3 weeks after two years, and 4 weeks after 5 years. Performance is
reviewed annually. There is an initial probationary review period of six
months.

writing sample of a grant application, curatorial writing or proposal, in
advance of the interview.
