** First Cambridge Wellcome Lecture in the History of Medicine **
The Department is delighted to announce the First Cambridge Wellcome
Lecture in the History of Medicine.
On Thursday 1 December 2005

will speak on
'Women's bodies in sixteenth-century medicine: using the classical
The lecture will start at 4.30 p.m. in Seminar Room 2. Tea will be
available from 4.15 in Seminar Room 1, and a drinks reception will be held
there at 6.00.
At a workshop the same day at 11.30 a.m. in Seminar Room 1 Professor King
will introduce a discussion of a paper that will be made available about
two weeks in advance. The title is 'William Smellie vs John Burton: using
the history of medicine in eighteenth-century obstetrics'.
