2005 - announced as the INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF PHYSICS - marks the centenary
of the publication of ALBERT EINSTEIN's equation 'E = mc2'.
To mark this centenary, the online publication spiked
[www.spiked-online.com] - in collaboration with NESTA (the National
Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts) and the Institute of Physics
- is conducting a major survey of the international scientific and medical
community. I am writing to invite you to participate in this survey.
To participate, all you need to do is submit one or more paragraphs
responding to the following question:
- If you could teach the world just one thing about science, what would
that thing be, and why?
That is, what single scientific principle, concept or discovery do you
wish everyone understood? And why is it so important?
I should be grateful if you could email me your response by MONDAY 28
FEBRUARY.
Survey responses will be published on spiked in April 2005, and spiked will
also be running several parallel projects drawing upon the survey. These
will potentially include a series of films, a public event, and an online
debate.
Many thanks,
Sandy Starr and Alom Shaha
