I’d be very grateful if anyone could recommend/forward
any papers, books or articles regarding the
following:
• The ‘spectacle’ of terror and natural disaster (9/11
and the Tsunami in particular)
• Anything connected to CSI and ‘real life’ forensic
shows.
• How the body is represented in the media/the body as
a transgressive site of spectacle/ body horror.
• The phenomenon of the ‘rolling’ 24/7 satellite news
channels like Sky news/CNN
• Anything regarding Internet death sites and hardcore
pornography
• How technology determines representations of the
human body/any books on how internet and cheap DV
cameras have revolutionised entertainment/news media
Also, there’s been a number of documentaries lately
that have slipped through my net, in particular
docu-dramas regarding the Tsunami/9/11, the tackier
and more exploitative the better. Looking for forensic
shows like ‘Real CSI’ and the recent ‘Dark Side of
Porn’ season on Channel 4, or any good docus on the
history of pornography, particularly seventies ‘porno
chic’. Any stuff on William Burroughs and David
Cronenberg would also be gratefully received. Of
course I’ll pay for any copies/postal expenses.
