Hi Rachel
Not quite responding to your specific question, but have you given any
thought to the potential for using Podcasting to provide 'sound seeing
tours'? This would involve:
o Recording what you see as you walk around the museum
o Converting the recording to MP3 format
o Uploading to Web server
o Creating a simple RSS file which points to the file
o That's about it :-)
User's can then either download the MP3 file directly or subscribe to it.
Note that soundseeing tours are becoming popular for use in tourism. It
strikes me that there is potential for the museum community too, especially
to address accessibility issues (e.g. visually or physically impaired
visitors).
An example of use of Podcasts to support an event is available at:
http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/web-focus/events/workshops/webmaster-2005/podcasts/
a briefing document on Podcasting at
http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/qa-focus/documens/ briefings/briefing-83/
and a directory of soundseeing tours is at
http://gigadial.net/public/station/5313
Hope this is of interest.
