I have twopence worth to contribute to this. I see nothing with which to
argue in CILIP's response to the Vice-Chancellor. It is fine as far as it
goes, but I understood that the proposal was to delete subject specialist
posts more or less across the board.
The university may have determined that they can deliver a cheaper service
by deleting such posts, but I had hoped that CILIP's response would have
included a defence of the concept of subject specialist posts (especially
in this context!) and pointed out that any other structure would fail to
deliver the same quality of service in all subjects taught there. But it
looks like another case of long-term gain being sacrificed to short-term
savings.
